Hello. I am going to have to bail tonight. I have to work late. I have a deadline this week. Sorry! I will definitely be there next week. It's not my way to be flakey, but when it's work . . . .can't be helped.

I saw "Cleo from 5 to 7" by Agnes Varda, which I liked a lot.

In one week then.

Hmmm . . .I don't know what I could suggest for reading. I don't have any books on the new wave or can make copies and then scan them here. I think any general new wave article would mention this film along with a handful of others, like le mépris, cléo from 5 to 7, or anything by Truffaut or Rhomer.

I'll bring my copy of Hiroshima Mon Amour and if people want to watch it, then it'll be there. Otherwise there are other films.

Thanks Thomas.

I've not seen Hiroshima Mon Amour. This seems like a good suggestion. Could you also suggest some reading for this particular movie?

Hello everyone,

It was good to get this class going yesterday. I think now that we've all been to a class we will know what to expect and be able to help make it better in the classes to come. Afterall, the class is what we all make of it.

Anyway, this is about next week's film. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I don't see anything about a French New Wave thread on here. My excuses for my comment about the film "weekend" yesterday. I just felt strongly about it when I first saw it. Maybe I need to see it again?

I don't know which films are available for new wave, but one I can recommend is "Hiroshima Mon Amour". I think it's incredible. 400 Blows is good too. Jules and Jim is an interesting story about three people daring to live unconventionally. A lot of people say "Breathless" is important. I personally love Breathless, but I've also heard from a lot of people who find it out dated and boring. The actress in it is amazing.
